LK Metro in one breath

A lane, a shortcut, and a very good argument.

LK Metro runs between Soi Buakhao and Soi Diana. It is short enough that you can see one end from the other, bright enough to read a menu by, and after nine it is busy in a way that feels bigger than it is. The go-go bars are why the lane has a name. The beer bars, the reggae bar, the sports bars and the two rock rooms at the Soi Buakhao end are why people who live here still walk through it.

Here is the thing the search results will not tell you. LK Metro is the middle of a triangle. Soi Buakhao's beer bars on one side, Soi Diana's hall with the band in it on the other, and the lane in between. Everything is a few minutes from everything, on foot, and the best night here is not spent in one place. It is spent working out which corner of the triangle you are in the mood for, and walking there.

We are at the Soi Diana corner: the last bar inside Las Vegas Beer Garden, beside the stage. We have an interest, and we say so. The list below is Google's, not ours.

The way out

Ninety seconds, four frames.

Out of the Soi Diana end of the lane, turn towards the noise, and the Las Vegas Beer Garden sign is on your right before you have finished the thought. Through the gate, straight up the middle past nine bars that will each invite you in, to the stage. Look right. Black-and-gold sign, a gold crown over the K. That is us, and the tables beside the stage are ours.

Six to eight: Soi Buakhao

Eat on the long street, or in Tree Town, while it is still light. The beer bars are at their easiest, the traffic is loud and nobody has turned a speaker up yet.

Eight to ten: the lane

Walk LK Metro when the lights are on and the bars are filling. Trench Town for a reggae singer, a sports bar if there is a kick-off, and then out the far end.

Ten to three: the hall

The band at Las Vegas Beer Garden is in its second set by ten and the hall is cold, full and loud. Walk to the stage, look right, and stand at our counter if the tables have gone. They will have.

    The big Las Vegas Beer Garden sign, two minutes from LK Metro. Free entry, no ticket, no dress code.

  2. Walk straight up the middle

    Past Pocket Kings, Palace, the V Bar, Full House, Viva, Aces High, MGN and Black Jack. The music gets louder with every step.

  3. At the stage, look right

    A black disc ringed with bulbs, a gold crown over the K. That's the door. The toilets are just past it, which is why everyone walks by at least once.
